Sunday, Cupcakes Take The Cake had a bake sale at the Brooklyn Flea and raise $700 for Cupcakes For A Cause. If you want to contribute, go buy a cupcake today at either Baked, Crumbs, or one of the many bakeries across the country.

Tuesday I ate well thanks to Foodbuzz, learned how to make risotto thanks to Chef Brad Steelman from River Cafe and learned about induction cooking thanks to Electrolux.

Wednesday, I drank champagne, got some free Jo Malone performe samples and listened to jazz musician Marcus Goldhaber.

Baked Book Party and FreshDirect Event

Tonight, I went to the book party for Baked at PowerHouse Arena in DUMBO. Matt Lewis and Renato Poliafito, the owners of Baked in Red Hook, have written their first cookbook,  Baked: New Frontiers in Baking, which is full of delicious recipes for cakes, brownies, whoopie pies and cupcakes. The Chocolate Malted cupcakes pictured above are so yummy!

Artisanal Cheese and Wine At USQ

Before going to the Baked event, I stopped by the FreshDirect event at Union Square Wine and Spirits.  The event was to promote the FreshDirect’s new online wine store partnership With USQ Wine Store.  There was cheese and wine pairings, sake with edamame,  a few Spanish wines and a really spicy ginger cocktail made with Canton.  I especially liked the Llopart Rose Brut Cava so I may get some for the holidays since they will be here soon.  At the event, I met a couple of writers from Crain’s,  a very cool former model who is a foodie, and actress Robin Mattson who played Heather on General Hospital back in the day. Plus, I talked to fellow foodbuzz blogger Miss Ginsu and the very nice publicists at MWW.

The 4th Annual Delicious Sandwich Social was yesterday at Prospect Park. It was so much fun. The weather was beautiful, and I got to see comedian friends that I haven’t seen in ages.

The point of the social is to meet other people who made the sandwiches that are exchanged. I made a portobello mushroom sandwich with muenster cheese pepperjack cheese and green pepper. Eliot Glazer got my sandwich and he loved it. We also ate cupcakes from Ivy Bakery. The butter pecan onces were my favorite.

Tim won the golden ticket which means he got a bag of cool stuff including a pretty black and white polka dot apron and glove set from Carolyn’s Kitchen. Yay!

hawaiian shaved ice at Eton, originally uploaded by nichellest.

First I will announce this: song titles may not necessarily be the titles of my blog posts. I have do more with SEO (search engine optimization).

Anyway, I stumbled upon a wonderful surprise yesterday evening. As I walking along Sackett Street in Cobble Hill, I saw Eton, this little place that sells Hawaiian shaved ice and savory dumplings. I loved it!

I ordered the pork/beef cabbage dumplings, and they were delicious. Next time, I am going for the chicken mushroom.

There are eighteen flavors to choose for the shaved ice including mango, coconut, and passion fruit. Since it was my first time, I chose strawberry/lemon shaved ice. Then you pick a “topping”. Vanilla ice cream was recommended by the Eton, so I went with it even though I was duboius of the taste. Actually the “topping” is actually a “bottoming” since it is put in the cute flowerpot containers first before the shaved ice. The end result is like a creamsicle.

Pig Roast at 3rd Ward

pork taco and wooden leg, originally uploaded by nichellest.

Despite the heat, I went to the 1st annual Pig Roast at 3rd Ward.

When I first arrived, I saw Brownie (Alex) from Blondie and Brownie. We chatted and waited in line to get our pork taco platters which included grilled corn, pinto beans and coleslaw. I opted to have a Wooden Leg, a nice rye whiskey cocktail.

Zach Brooks from Midtown Lunch and Serious Eats was there serving up tacos while hanging out with the folks from Brooklyn Kitchen.

I also met Erin, a brand new transplant to New York who also writes for Serious Eats. BTW, I am amazed at 3rd Ward’s artist and coworking space. Now that I know how to get out to East Williamsburg, I will visit 3rd Ward again. No pig required.

purple haze hot dogs, originally uploaded by nichellest.

It’s been an action packed week with parties, shows, and a hot dog cook-off.

I went to Neal Medlyn’s Unpronounceable Symbol show at PS 122.  I may go again next week since Bridget Everett will be making a cameo.  The show was reviewed by the New York Times.

Thursday, I went to see Little Jackie perform at the Steve Madden store on Rivington. Their new album, The Stoop, is out now.

Friday, I chilled out with friends at Prospect Park to celebrate Brian Van’s birthday and listen to The Brazilian Girls.

Yesterday, I competed in the Third Annual Great Hot Dog Cookoff. My purple haze hot dogs are pretty and tasty.

Today, I found out that I am featured in an article about clothing swaps in New York Daily News. Yay!

jellybean cupcakes at drop i.o party, originally uploaded by nichellest.

I saw these cupcakes with jellybeans at the Drop i.o party In DUMBO and I thought, “Type 2 Diabetes”. I chose not to eat them, mainly because I have indulged this week with cupcakes at Batch with Blondie and Brownie and RKB on Monday Plus  cookies at Crumbs Bakeshop with Mia Bauer. I  also re-met Chrysanthe who work at Outside.in and competed in the Cupcake Cook-off last month.

After the party, I went with the Kap to see Devo. We missed the Tom Tom Club, but it was a blast!

Rising Up

Saturday, I went to the 16th Annual Park Slope Open Studio Tour. My friends and I started the tour at MadArts, a group artist studio in South Slope. We met some innovative artists including Paul Mallo, Joetta Maue, Jimmy Fountain and Brooke Toczylowski. Then we stopped Richard Egan’s house, as well as few other places before hopping on a bus to get to a fashion/art party in an area of Brooklyn that I like to call Pro-Crow (Prospect Heights/Crown Heights). Later, we went to a  couple of ICFF design parties in Soho and drank champagne out of a can.
